A Nourishing Golden Turmeric Latte For Mamas (And Their Little Ones)

May 11, 2023

My usual go-to hot bevvy on a chilly morn is a coconut cream cacao, alas sadly, cacao is currently off the menu while breastfeeding, so turmeric is getting its time to shine.

This recipe is incredibly nourishing for mamas (and for their little ones too) with:

  • Bone broth for a rich source of collagen (amazing for gut, skin, hair, nail health)

  • Coconut cream for a beautiful source of healthy fats (incredible for nourishing breastmilk)

  • Grass-fed gelatin for all the same reasons as the bone broth

  • Turmeric for an anti-inflammatory hit

  • Ginger to support digestion and support milk supply

  • Ghee for vitamins A, D, K2, and E and arachidonic acid (essential for healthy skin, gut health and brain function)

  • Raw honey for a touch of nature’s sweetness and immune support (omit for babies under the age of 1)

Phewwww. It’s more like a snack than just a beverage so will keep you fueled for longer.

Recently I shared that one of my hacks for nourishing myself in this second postpartum is maximising every eating opportunity. This latte is the perfect example of that.

Yes I could have made it with just coconut cream, turmeric and water and it would’ve tasted fine.

But I would’ve been hungry like 10 minutes later so I’m not getting much return on the time I spent preparing it.

Add in some beautiful healthy fats and protein, and kapow, you have a drink that’s going to do the distance and nourish you at the same time.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Bone broth

  • Coconut cream

  • Grass-fed gelatin

  • Ghee

  • Turmeric powder

  • Ground ginger

  • Raw honey

METHOD:

Add 1 cup of bone broth, 1/2 cup coconut cream, 1 tbsp grass-fed gelatin, 1 tbsp ghee, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp ground ginger to a thermomix and heat on low until broth or ghee is melted, or alternatively, use a stove pot and whisk until all ingredients melted and combined. Once combined, add in 1/2 tsp raw honey (omit for babies under 1) and blend/whisk again to combine. Serve warm and enjoy.
